Pros and Cons of Liposuction:

Author: Letty's Staff Writer

When you are deciding on a surigcal procedure (even if it is an elective surgery) - one of the most natural questions to ask is...

What are the pros and cons of liposuction?...

This article answers that question for you. I want you to go into liposuction or any plastic surgery arms with the most important thing possible... and that is knowledge.

So, if you are ready - then let's begin.

What are the potential benefits of liposuction surgery?

Pros and Cons of Liposuction Question: Answer #1

The potential benefits of liposuction surgery are that areas of resistant fat in the otherwise fit individuals who are close to their ideal weight can be sculpted and removed. This helps folks feel better about areas of their bodies over which they feel they have little control.

So I would say that the benefits are actual and perceptual. Both body image and the real body shape are enhanced.

What are the risks of Liposuction surgery?

Pros and Cons of Liposuction Question: Answer #2

The risks for liposuction surgery are unfortunately many (as with any surgical procedure – there potential complications). Below I discuss some of the more common risks, and which are most dangerous to the patient post-surgery.

  1. Migration of blood clots (or fat clumps) – The migration of a blood clot or fat globule to the heart, brain or lungs can cause a heart attack or stroke. Staying in bed and inactive after surgery increases the risk of these potential life threateners.
  2. Infection of surgical site – Infection can occur both during surgery and after surgery at home. Your physician may prescribe antibiotics as a preventative. But you will be cautioned to keep surgical areas clean and dry to speed healing and prevent possible infection with bacteria or fungi.
  3. Bumpy or wavy skin – After surgery it can months before your final result will be apparent. For some that final result will not be what they envisioned. The skin may appear saggy and or fat redistribution may leave you looking unsymmetrical and lumpy.
  4. Scars after surgery – There will be entry scars for many people after their liposuction surgery. For dark-skinned individuals these entry scars may appear darker than their normal skin color in the area, and or be raised. But even light-skinned individuals can scar in a noticeable way.

What is the take-home here?

Liposuction is a highly popular and desirable surgery.

It can help people achieve their desired body image - AND help them feel good about what they see in the mirror. But liposuction is surgery and this article has discussed just a few of the possible complications and dangers of liposuction.

Even in the best and most competent of surgical hands – you cannot diminish the risks of surgery to nothing. Every surgery has potential for risks and possible complications. It just goes with the territory.

But there are things you can do to minimize those risks.

At Letty's Liposuction Directory I like to discuss the bottom-line with you. And my final thought for this article is to – Do Your Homework Upfront. This is the most important step to take to minimize your overall risk during surgery. You should make sure that your surgeon is top-notch to begin with. Secondly – follow your at-home care instructions impeccably.

Seems simple, right?...

Making sure you are well-educated and informed about liposuction surgery will go a long way toward ensuring that your experience is a good one.
